the last of my John Muir seriesWhen the Light Comes “The wrongs done to trees, wrongs of every sort, are done in the darkness of ignorance and unbelief, for when the light comes, the heart of the people is always right.” - John of the Mountains: The Unpublished Journals of John Muir, 1938here we catch a glimpse of the aftermath of clear cutting.i’ve lost count of the number of clear cut areas i’ve seen in the last year.step 1. clear cut the diverse forest (a token of 2-3 trees designated as ancient growth might be left standing in dismal isolation/exposure)step 2. inundate the area with areal and ground sprays, active ingredients including such toxins as 2-4D and/or glyphosate in the nearly ad hoc mixtures. for an example of the reckless disregard by which this sometimes occurs see http://www.beyondtoxics.org/work/pesticide-reform/highway-36-triangle-lake-area-investigation/step 3. “replant” with monocrop trees which permanently recast forests into agricultural timber lands.

“The wrongs done to trees, wrongs of every sort,

here we catch a glimpse of the aftermath of clear cutting.
i’ve lost count of the number of clear cut areas i’ve seen in the last year.

step 1. clear cut the diverse forest (a token of 2-3 trees designated as ancient growth might be left standing in dismal isolation/exposure)

step 2. inundate the area with areal and ground sprays, active ingredients including such toxins as 2-4D and/or glyphosate in the nearly ad hoc mixtures. for an example of the reckless disregard by which this sometimes occurs see http://www.beyondtoxics.org/work/pesticide-reform/highway-36-triangle-lake-area-investigation/

step 3. “replant” with monocrop trees which permanently recast forests into agricultural timber lands.

A Doe and her Twins.

as i biked home from my errands i caught a flash of movement out the corner of my eye.

There. just across the bank of the creek.
a doe and her fawn.

… OH!… cute there are twins. :)

at first fine and curious about my presence,
they then seemed uncomfortable with my nearness
so i pedaled away to leave them eat in peace.

Every Leaf seems to Speak

“When one is alone at night in the depths of these woods, the stillness is at once awful and sublime. Every leaf seems to speak.”
